JOIN US FOR OUR SIXTH ANNUAL TURKEYS IN THE TRUNK
Thanksgiving Food Drive at Harpers Porsche – Saturday, November 19th 12-1 PM
The Smoky Mountain Region PCA, with support from Harpers Porsche, is sponsoring its sixth annual Thanksgiving Food Drive to benefit the Salvation Army and the Knox Area Rescue Ministries (KARM).
Since its inception in 2017, Turkeys in the Trunk has been a major contributor towards satisfying the need for meals during the holiday season. In fact, over this period of time, Turkeys in the Trunk has collected almost 10,000 pounds (5 tons) of food, including 212 turkeys and 42 hams. In addition, this event has received over $6000 in contributions for both KARM and the Salvation Army.
For those of you who have not been to “Turkeys in the Trunk”, this is how it works:
- First, you load your front trunk, your back trunk (if you have one), your roof rack, your passenger foot well…. or wherever there is space available, with frozen turkeys, potatoes, canned vegetables, yams, non-perishable food items and the rest of the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal.
- Then hop in your “stuffed” car and drive to Harpers on Saturday, November 19th between 12:00 and 1:00 PM.
- Volunteers will be on hand to assist in the unloading and weighing of the food.
You’d be surprised as to how much food you can actually stuff into your car! We will be set up in the rear parking lot behind Harper’s Car Wash located across Parkside Drive from the dealership. In the event of rain, we will move inside.
Why weighing? Well, the person bringing the most food in each category will win a special prize donated by the Smoky Mountain Region PCA. In the interest of fairness, there will be three categories; 2-seat models, Coupe/4-door and SUVs. In addition, cash donations will be accepted at this event and checks can be made out directly to either the Salvation Army or the Knox Area Rescue Ministries. While technically not a 2-seater, for this competition, 911’s will be lumped into the 2-seater category.
Please come join us! This is a fun event and it’s a great way to help kick off the Holiday season, socialize with great friends and to benefit those less fortunate. For those interested, following the event we may try and find a place to grab a bite of lunch.
