TURKEYS IN THE TRUNK 2019

NOVEMBER 23, 2019

Our 3rd annual Turkeys in the Trunk event was this last Saturday from 12 PM to 1 PM.  This we invited some other car clubs to participate, and quite a few Not-Porsches showed, but mostly Club Members using their Grocery Getters in light of the dreadful weather. BUT, we still had a record breaking year!

We descended on Harpers Porsche auxiliary building across from the dealership (many thanks for the use of the building), and volunteers commenced to unloading and weighing the donations.  Proceeds were donated to both the Salvation Army and the Knox Area Rescue Ministries.  And the Final tally was:

  • 2,935 pounds of food
  • $1,475 in cash contributions
  • Included in the total were 56 turkeys and 15 hams

Many thanks to Rick & Janice at Eurotech Knoxville for contributing three $100 Service Certificates for our prizage. Our winners were:

  • 1st: John McDermott
  • 2nd: Steve Wise
  • 3rd: Matt Fischer… Who immediately handed it back to Rick since Lucille goes in Monday

After the event, we met at the Parkside Grill for lunch, stories, and fun! Was a nasty weather day, but the Smoky Mountain Region delivered! Thanks to all that donated and helped. And big thanks to Bob and Penny Baugh for setting this up. The Salvation Army followed up to report the turkeys and hams have been delivered to each organization’s kitchen and the cooks were so pleased.
