September 25, 2021 – This driving tour combined two regional classics, the Tail of the Dragon and the Cherohala Skyway. We’ve toured these roads before, but not combined in one drive in a while. We met at our favorite Hardees in Vonore, handled the paperwork and wristbands, briefed the drivers, and then we were off!
We took 411 and 72 to US 129, landing on The Dragon at the 129 Hub. After a leisurely run down the Dragon, we stopped at Cheoah Point Beach for a pic-a-nic lunch. Beautiful weather, great views, and good times were the order of the day.
After lunch, we took some twisties through Santeelah and Joyce Kilmer areas, then dropped onto the Cherohala Skyway. We ran the entire length of the Skyway without much traffic, and great views, and had another pitstop at the Cherohala Skyway Visitor Center. After the break we took TN 360 back to Hardees to wind it up.
Many thanks that came out, thanks to those that helped lead and sweep. Look forward to seeing you on the road again soon.
