Driving Tour September 2021

September 25, 2021 – 10:30 am to When We Are Done

Driving Some Classics in Tennessee and North Carolina

Please mark your calendars for Saturday, September 25th, for our next Smoky Mountain Region driving tour. This will be a “East Tennessee-West North Carolina Classics” Tour. We will be meeting at the Vonore Hardees, then commencing on The Tail of the Dragon to a Pic-a-nic spot at Cheoah Point Beach in the Nantahala National Forest. This is a Day Use area, so bring a Fiver to pay the USNF fee (it’s for a good cause!), and pack a Pic-a-nic lunch. There is seating for about 50, but if you want to spread out bring some chairs. Program Note: the “facilities” are CCC-built enclosed “rustic” Pit Toilets, so plan accordingly.

After lunch we will take some less traveled twisty roads past Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest and the “Chasing the Dragon Hill Climb Start Line” to the Cherohala Skyway, another “classic” road of the area. We will tour the Cherohala, stopping at some overlooks for the view. After a Pit Stop at the Cherohala Skyway Visitor Center, we will take TN 360 back to our favorite Hardees in Vonore.

THIS IS A SPEED LIMIT TOUR OF SOME CLASSIC ROADS TO AQUAINT NEWER MEMBERS WITH THESE ROADS.
IT WILL NOT BE “SPIRITED” DRIVING.

More details will be emailed to participants closer to the day of the event. If you are interested in participating, please send an RSVP to Matt Fischer at mtfischer@comcast.net. Please provide your name, car year, model, and color, and a cell phone number.
