Saturday, July 29, 2023: Crab Orchard Mountains and Elk Valley
Please mark your calendars for Saturday, July 29th for a great day drive over Crab Orchard Mountains and through Elk Valley. This area is northwest of Knoxville. For those that are familiar with my driving routes, rest assured that you will enjoy a great combination of curves, scenery and small town America.
Beginning at the Kroger Marketplace in Oak Ridge, our tour will take us through Oliver Springs and the communities of Montgomery, Norma, Pioneer and Newcomb. We will then travel through Elk Valley into Jellico. From that point, we will travel on 25W through the communities of Morley, Habersham and Duff to our destination in LaFollette. Upon arrival in LaFollette, we will stop at Katie’s Restaurant for a late lunch. Katie’s has been recommended by several friends. To the locals, Katie’s is their local dining hangout with really good food. Everyone will be able to order off of their menu which includes hamburgers, sandwiches, stew, chili and steaks.
While plans are currently being developed, we are tentatively planning to depart at 11 AM from Oak Ridge and arrive in LaFollette at 2 PM for lunch. The tour is some 95 miles in length and will take about 3 hours to complete, including a short rest stop. Please contact Bob Baugh at baughbob@yahoo.com to RSVP or for questions.
