Driving Tour August 2024

Saturday, August 10th, to Morristown NWS

Please make plans to attend our August driving tour on Saturday, August 10th. This event will combine both a fun drive and a tour of the National Weather Service (NWS) in Morristown, TN. You may not realize it, but the National weather forecast for our area comes out of the Morristown facility. Upon arrival, there will be a brief presentation, followed by a tour of the facility.

While plans are currently being developed, we are planning to meet at the I-40 (East) Rest Area near Mile Marker 419 (just before the I-40/I-81 split) at 8:30 AM. Following signing waivers and a driver’s meeting, we will depart promptly at 9 AM. We will be taking lots of backroads filled with twists and curves to Morristown. The driving portion is some 73 miles in length and we take about 1 hour – 20 minutes to complete. The NWS is expecting us at 10:30 AM.

Please note that since the NWS facility is not huge, the tour has to be limited to a maximum of 40 people. As such, registration will have to be done on a first-come, first-served basis. If we exceed the limit, we will start a standby list.

After the tour, we will meet for lunch at nearby Aubreys, 4333 Evan Greene Plaza, Morristown. Following lunch, you are free to return at your leisure. If you plan to join us for this event, please contact Bob Baugh at baughbob@yahoo.com to RSVP. The RSVP deadline is Wednesday, August 7th.
