October 22-23, 2022 to Murphy, NC
The Woontners and Fischers happen to own side-by-side mountaintop cabins outside of Murphy, NC, and have decided to host a potluck soiree there. The tour will entail a led driving tour to the cabins on some of East Tennessee’s and West North Carolina’s gorgeous roads, ending at Murphy about 2ish. Then we’ll check-in as needed, socialize and prep/warm up the side dishes and sit down for dinner about 4ish at the Woontners. After that, dessert at the Fischers. Return options include heading back home after dinner, or DIY hotel arrangements and a led tour home on Sunday morning.
THE BASIC FACTS
- Led Driving Tour Saturday, October 22, 10ish-2ish
- Overnight Accommodations: Hotels/Motels reservations area challenging for groups in Murphy; if you wish to stay over Saturday night, accommodations are DIY. Some known hotels are listed below.
- The Meat Course, ice, plates/utensils will be provided.
- Sides and Desserts are Potluck. Please relay your side item in your registration email, and whether it needs to be heated/fridged.
- BYO Adult Beverages and any necessary mixers, choice of soft drinks, and needed equipment.
- Sunday Morning a led Driving Tour back to the start point will be held if there is interest.
- SPACE IS LIMITED: We can only park so many cars up on the mountain, and seat so many in the cabins. This tour will be limited to 15 cars, so please plan accordingly and RSVP, promptly.
- Please RSVP to Matt Fischer by Friday, October 7th with the needed information (see below).
- Chairs are limited, so if some have Porsche Frunk Fitting camp chairs, please bring them.
HOTELS AND MOTELS: The local hotels are getting lean on group discounts and blocks, so we decided to let everyone arrange their own Saturday night accommodations (highly recommended!!). Here are three vetted options, there are others, along with various cabin rentals and B&Bs. It would a great opportunity to make a mountain weekend of it!
- Hampton Inn Murphy: (1550 Andrews Rd, Murphy, NC) About 20 minutes from the cabins, about $250 last check, a classic corporate hotel. (828) 837-1628.
- The Murphy Motel: (8950 US-64, Murphy, NC) About 5 minutes from the cabins, about $70-90 last check, clean Old School motor court. 1-828-644-1000, ask for Jack.
- The Sunset Motel: (199 Valley River Ave, Murphy NC) About 15 minutes from the cabins in downtown Murphy, about $80-100 last check, refurbed fun Old School motor court. 1-828-837-5111.
