Saturday, July 20, 2022, Catoosa WMA & Lilly Pad Brewery
In an effort to keep things fresh and vibrant for the Smoky Mountain Region, we are currently planning our first SUV driving tour! This exciting tour will take us through parts of the Catoosa Wildlife Management Area with the Lilly Pad Hopyard Brewery as our final destination. In all, our tour will be some 68 miles and a combination of paved and dirt/gravel. We realize that there may be some apprehension about taking your Porsche off-road or getting it dirty. Relax, there is nothing technical about the dirt portion of the drive and once we are in Catoosa, members will get to experience a green forest full of elevation changes and hopefully some wildlife.
Porsche has an impressive history of off-roading its cars and SUVs. Also, as an added bonus, once we depart Catoosa, we will be able to enjoy roughly 6 miles of twists and turns on a great paved road as we head toward the Lilly Pad. The pictures in the flyer for this tour were recently taken while driving through Catoosa. As you see, these roads are simple yet enough to give you a better feel of your Porsche’s off-road capability.
As for our destination, if you’ve not been to the Lilly Pad, you’re in for a treat! They are a small batch, craft brewery located near the Obed Wild and Scenic River on the Cumberland Plateau. While it seems they are in the middle of nowhere, the Lilly Pad brews some really great beer and they have food provided by The Sauced Frog.
While details are currently being worked, we anticipate meeting at the Kroger in Oak Ridge and departing around 12 PM. While only 68 miles, 16 of those miles will be in Catoosa and speeds will be on the order of 20 mph on their service roads. As such, our travel time to the Lilly Pad will be on the order of 2 hours.
