Heard ‘Round the Zone – July 2017
OK!!!  Porsche gets a big win…a hat trick as they say (three years in a row…).  The Porsche LMP 1 hybrid 919 (#2), took first overall at the LeMans 24 Hour, after their main competitor, Toyota, had issues with all three of its entries.  Out of the five entries in LMP 1, only two managed to get to the races end…Porsche in first, and Toyota in second (nine laps behind, and ninth overall)l.  Note…the Porsche made up an eighteen lap deficit to take the top spot on the podium!

LeMans cont’d … Not so pretty in the LMGTE Pro division, where the Porsche RSR finished fourth, one lap behind the class winning Aston Martin Vantage.  In the LMGTE Am division, the best the Porsche 991 RSR could do was sixth in class.  That class was won by the Ferrari 488 GTE.

The next WEC (World Endurance Championship) race, is July 14th, at the Nurburgring.

Parade Spokane … Starting July 8th!  Along with four other members of Zone 3, I’ve been asked to judge in Mondays Concours.  It’s a distinct privilege to judge at such a prestigious national concours event, such as Parade.  Looking forward to it!!!

PCA, celebrating the tenth anniversary of raffling off new Porsches, is offering up no less than six 911 GTS’s, in the spring raffle!!!  If you haven’t purchased a ticket, it’s too late to do so.

The next big multi-event weekend coming up, is Peachstate Regions’ Rennfest, in Young Harris, GA, Labor Day weekend.  Last I heard, registration was almost full, but you might want to check the Peachstate web site to see.

Another DE in the southeast, is scheduled by the Coastal Empire Region, at Roebling Road, the weekend of 09.16-18.  Check their website for additional information.

Of course, Treffen Asheville is also in September!  President Peter Graham, and a whole cadre of volunteers from the Appalachian Region, have been working non-stop, running and re-running the different tours for that sold out weekend at the Grove Park Inn, in Asheville.

BTW…it’s not too late to start thinking about Road Atlantas’ Petit LeMans.  October 04-07, 2017.  Go to the Petit LeMans website for ticket information.  And yes, as in previous years, we’re looking for volunteers to work the events’ Porsche Platz.

See you at the next PCA event!
